The Assignment

Location: Baku, Azerbaijan
Reporting to: Programme Lawyer, IBAHRI

June 2017, the IBAHRI launched its first ever Mentorship Programme bringing senior and junior Azerbaijani lawyers to work together.

Currently, the IBAHRI is seeking to contract a Baku-based Consultant to assist in the delivery of the Mentorship Programme. The Consultant will to have to be engaged throughout the duration of the programme i.e. June-August 2017.

Essential Services Under the supervision and guidance of the London based Programme Lawyer, the Consultant will be expected to fulfil the following terms of reference during the period of the consultancy:

  • Regularly meet the participants of the Mentorship Programme;
  • Conduct needs assessment of the Mentorship Programme participants;
  • Assist the IBAHRI in collection of data for the monitoring & evaluation of the Mentorships Programme, including drafting mid-term and final reports, setting up meetings between Programme Lawyer and the participants;
  • Act as the first point of contact for the Mentorship Programme participants including timely identification of real or potential risks and other factors capable of jeopardising the implementation of the Mentorship Programme
  • Report on a weekly basis to the Programme Lawyer on the course of the programme and the progress of the Programme participants (both the mentees and the mentors);
  • Suggest solutions to possible issues and implement those.

In carrying out the above, the Consultant will at all times adhere to the highest professional standards and to IBA and IBAHRI procedures and policies as directed.

Qualifications and Experience

  • University graduate
  • Demonstrable experience of managing projects including demonstrable experience of liaising with international partners
  • Strong communication skills
  • Good organisational skills including financial skills and attention to detail
  • Solution-oriented thinking
  • Understanding of international human rights standards
  • Understanding of the legal profession in Azerbaijan
  • IT literate (MS Office and MS WORD and MS Excel in particular)
  • Fluent written and spoken English and Azerbaijani
  • Ability to work up to 20 hours per week.
